Be Still - And Know God!
In the quiet moments, away from society's concerns, God is there...Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. - Psalm 46:10Be still and know that I am God. Can you even picture being still? I think this verse was specifically written for the harried times we live in. You may be thinking to yourself: If I am still, I will fall asleep. I have to keep moving to get everything done. Do you find it hard, in the quiet moments, to be still and hear God? Do thoughts run through your mind about what you need to do tomorrow or get at the grocery? God is asking us to be still, to be quiet and to know Him. We can't know Him, if we don't spend time with Him. Have you ever noticed that you often feel closer to God when you are in nature? Take a walk in the woods or stroll along the ocean's edge and you are in awe of His creation. My thought is that we feel closer to God in nature, because it is quiet. In ancient times, David was a shepherd, some of the disciples were fisherman. They had plenty of quiet places where they could talk and listen to God. Are you afraid of the silence? As working Moms and Dads, we are always busy. Stopping to contemplate is not always a luxury it seems we have. It's almost as if we fear that if we stop rushing, everything will come crashing down. I know it is hard top allow yourself those quiet moments for yourself and God. If you have young children - you often don't even get to go to the bathroom. And if you do get to go to the bathroom, it seems you are hardly there alone. Make time to be still and know. I am not talking about praying for others or yourself. You need to take time to listen to what God has to tell you. You will be blessed by being still and knowing God. Words of Encouragement: God knows we are busy. He patiently waits for us to talk with Him. Sometime this week, take 15 minutes to 1/2 hour to just be still and know God. Listen for His quiet small voice. Don't be surprised if this is hard to do, at firts, but the rewards are worth it. Listen to Him. Prayer Thought: Lord, you know it is hard for me to turn my brain off sometimes. It is hard for me to focus on you. Help me to take the time to just listen to You and bask in Your Glory. Help me to learn to depend on You and all your knowledge. Like humans, they too have rituals of gathering food, procreation and even death rituals. Our normal day-to-day rituals include a shower, combing our hair, brushing teeth and preparing for work. Although she didn't believe that Jeanne Dixon was a legitimate source of prophecy she wasn't listening as much to her predictions, as she was to her choice of words. She counted the personal pronouns Dixon used like, I, me, and mine. The list of pronouns was in the hundreds. She also listed the times Dixon used words like God, Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit. That list consisted of about a dozen mentions. I remember that I was somewhat shocked by what I thought was a hyper critical assessment of Dixon's presentation. My friend was one of the mildest and most helpful persons I had ever known and this seemed so out of character for her. Jesus the Great Teacher --Lessons Learned! I don't know of anyone who really liked taking tests in school if you did there is something seriously wrong with you. It just seemed as though some breezed through while people like myself always struggled. Life is not fair!!!! Some call it tests anxiety. I think I just concentrated on trying not to get the answer wrong instead of relaxing and allowing my brain to find the answer in my head. Most times the next day I could do better because of no pressure. Second golf shots are like that too! So when I received my test scores back all I noticed were the red marks and disappointments instead of how many right answers I had out of one hundred. Having said that, perfect test scores were few and far between for most of us I think. Spring Cleanup The junk I'm talking about is the stuff that we keep stored up inside ourselves. It's the excess baggage in our lives that tends to weigh us down and serves no purpose. This heavy load dims our spirits and dims the light within us. These things more specifically are known as Doubt, Fear, Unforgiveness, Anxiety, Pride, Rebellion, Hatred, Double-Mindedness, you get the idea, the things that keep us held in bondage. The Healing Hand of God "Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
